French Press

Whether you’re wanting to explore brew methods away from the coffee pot or looking to dial in your french press recipe, here is something to get you started.

There are many different ways to brew on the french press and this is what I’ve found that I like. For this recipe I am using a 1L Bodum french press. I am using a scale, but I have included ways of measurement for those who do not have a scale. Remember you can always make adjustments such as grind size, brew time, and ratio.

  1. Weigh 56g of coffee OR measure out about 8 tablespoons

  2. Grind medium/coarse (8 out of 11 on my grinder).

  3. Put coffee in french press.

  4. Pour water into french press halfway (I have a preheated kettle and I use water at 205ºF. If you boil water, totally cool… just have it sit for 1 min or so before you brew coffee with it so it doesn’t torch it). Also there are lots of variations of this step out there. Don’t sweat it if you pour in a different amount.

  5. Now it’s blooming. Let coffee bloom for 30 sec.

  6. Stir.

  7. Pour in more water. Enough that you can fit the lid on top. Total water I added was 855g.

  8. Set timer for 4 min.

  9. PRESS!

  10. Enjoy :)

The ratio for this recipe is 15:1. If it seems too strong or not strong enough, change the ratio :)
